Nota Biográfica

Claudia Garradas completed her bachelor’s in History with Art History Studies (1998) and a two-year Postgraduation in Museology (2000) at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Porto. She holds a Master’s degree in Museum and Curatorial Studies (2007) from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto with the thesis “A Colecção de Arte da Faculdade de Belas Artes da Universidade do Porto: história e génese de uma colecção Universitária”. She is a Museology PhD student at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Porto. Claudia completed the first year of her PhD studies in 2012, but due to personal reasons had to interrupt. She is now retaking her doctoral research bringing international professional experience and a more robust research sills-set. Claudia has vast experience as a curator and collections manager acquired over the years she worked at the Fine Arts Museum of the University of Porto (1997 to 2013). During this period, she developed a wide range of activities involving research, inventory, cataloguing and documentation of collections and archival records. More recently, she collaborated (remotely and onsite in Malta, Portugal, Italy and USA) with The Malta Study Center at the Hill Museum and Manuscript Library (2016 to 2021). This collaboration allowed her to work in an international context with public and private archives and museums, particularly developing digital preservation projects and contributing to the draft and implementation of international metadata standards. During this period, she had the opportunity to manage a digitisation and cataloguing project at the Malta Maritime Museum, which contributed to the choice of the topic of her PhD – Maritime Museums: Exhibition Representations and Narratives of Mediterranean Cultures.
