ACIS Conference Information

We are delighted to announce that the 44th annual ACIS conference will be held at the Faculdade de Letras, Universidade do Porto, (Faculty of Arts and Humanities, University of Porto)  from 6th to 8th September 2023, in a hybrid format.

The Association holds an international and multidisciplinary annual conference in early September and since the first gathering in 1978, the event has circulated between host universities in Spain, Portugal and the United Kingdom.

ACIS has been following the new trends in Iberian Studies, taking into account the linguistic and cultural diversity of Iberia. Papers and panels focus on the nineteenth, twentieth and twenty-first centuries with a particular emphasis on the Iberian Peninsula and its relations with the wider Portuguese and Spanish-speaking countries.

It also reflects the growth of new areas of teaching and research, including translation, new technologies and language-learning, cultural studies, film and media studies and the latest developments in Iberian history, politics, economics and social change.

One of the most notable developments in recent years has been the growing number of scholars from beyond the UK and the Republic of Ireland attracted to the ACIS conferences, not only from Spain, Portugal and other European states but also from North and South American, African, Asian and Middle Eastern countries.

The atmosphere is positive and supportive, and established academics, early-career academics, and postgraduates are all equally welcome.

This year’s conference will remain a three-day event, comprising a selection of panels and keynote addresses.

The host organisers are Dr. Carla Sequeira and Dr. Joana Lencart, from CITCEM — a Transdisciplinary Research Centre on “Culture, Space and Memory”. https://www.citcem.org/

The Call for Papers for the conference will be announced shortly.
