Biographical note

Teodoro Afonso da Fonte, has a degree in History from the Faculdade de Letras da Universidade do Porto (1980), a Master in the History of Populations (1995) and a PhD in History (2004) from the Universidade do Minho.
He has taught high school in public and private schools (1979-2022), is a researcher in the Populations and Health Group, part of CITCEM, and an associate member and President of the General Assembly of the Center for Regional Studies (CER).
She has participated in several national and international conferences, presenting papers in the fields of historical demography, social history and history of assistance, focusing on the study of the phenomenon of abandonment of children in Portugal, between the seventeenth and twentieth centuries.
Among the various research works published, we can highlight the master’s dissertation on “The abandonment of children in Ponte de Lima” and the doctoral thesis, “On the threshold of honor and poverty. A infância desvalida e abandonada no Alto Minho”, awarded the Literary Prize A. Lopes de Oliveira, as the best work of social-historical studies, of local or regional scope, published in the years 2005 and 2006.
