13th SESSION OIC 2023/24 : "From the other shore: transatlantic literary cultural confluences"
Session leader: Mirta dos Santos y Fernández (Local and global representations)
Title/General theme of the session: “Desde la otra orilla: confluencias culturales literarias
transatlánticas”
Session Summary: In this session we intend to present the results of research that addresses the theme of cross-cultural and literary relations in the Iberian and Ibero-American scenarios during the 19th and 20th centuries. Although it is possible to see the existence of a tradition of dialogue between these geographical areas, characterized by their breadth, diversity and cultural fertility, until relatively recently, studies on artistic connections between Iberian and Ibero-American countries (particularly between Portugal and the countries of Hispano-America) were quite scarce. In this sense, aware of the need to give greater visibility to these confluences, which are not very evident a priori, we feel the desire to contribute to the expansion of this promising area of study. Thus, in the four papers that make up this session, the result of recent academic inquiries, the work of authors as apparently distant (geographically and literarily) as Juan Rulfo and Raúl Brandão or Alejandra Pizarnik and Florbela Espanca will be comparatively analyzed and, from a transatlantic perspective, European experiences of Ibero-American authors and Ibero-American experiences of Spanish theatre companies will also be presented.
