Title/General theme of the session: “New paths and perspectives in History teaching: practices and experiences beyond the classroom”
Session Summary:
This session aims to present theoretical reflections and practical experiences from research projects that have tried to think about how educational environments – with a particular interest in History classes – have contributed to becoming places for intercultural dialogues, which, through contacts and rapprochement, but also confrontations and distancing, aim to promote reflection on contemporary issues as a possible exercise from other epistemic places, such as extracurricular projects and the National History Olympics. In this sense, the aim of this session’s papers is to discuss how school historical knowledge has been mobilized inside and outside the classroom to deal with the tensions and demands of the present time, namely due to the contexts of migratory and environmental crises, increased cases of racism and xenophobia that pose various challenges for the educational community, including the management of increasingly multicultural spaces.
