Founded in 1911, the University of Porto (U.Porto) is a benchmark institution for Higher Education and Scientific Research in Portugal and one of the top 200 European Universities according to the most relevant international ranking systems.
Porto is a riverside and coastal city that marks the landscape of northwestern Portugal and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996. The history and human occupation of this area is apparent in every street and corner. From people connected to the sea and the Douro River, to writers and poets, to urban workers and labourers, to the daily life linked to Port Wine, its historic quarters show the marks and traces of the course of time. Porto is a city where different cultural and artistic expressions coexist, marked by a singular architecture, monuments, museums and associations, and by the connection to the University of Porto. From music to cinema, from literature to science, from urban art to ancient and modern architecture, Porto presents itself as a cosmopolitan and at the same time intimate city.
