{"id":23863,"date":"2026-03-06T10:53:02","date_gmt":"2026-03-06T10:53:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/citcem.org\/recursos\/montanha-sagrada\/"},"modified":"2026-03-06T10:54:06","modified_gmt":"2026-03-06T10:54:06","slug":"montanha-sagrada","status":"publish","type":"recursos","link":"https:\/\/citcem.org\/en\/resources\/montanha-sagrada\/","title":{"rendered":"Holy Mountain"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"comp-jy2n6p9a\" class=\"ku3DBC zQ9jDz qvSjx3 Vq6kJx comp-jy2n6p9a wixui-rich-text\" data-testid=\"richTextElement\">\n<p class=\"font_0 wixui-rich-text__text\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/montanhasagrada202.wixsite.com\/montanha-sagrada\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-23861\" src=\"https:\/\/citcem.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/banner-logo-montanha-sagrada.avif\" alt=\"\" width=\"932\" height=\"286\"><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"font_0 wixui-rich-text__text\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">This website presents the history and unique landscape of the Serra de Passos &#8211; Santa Comba &#8211; Garraia, in Tr\u00e1s-os-Montes: the Sacred Mountain.  <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"font_0 wixui-rich-text__text\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Its natural prominence and symbolic and historical relevance have accompanied it since prehistoric times, revealed by almost four decades of archaeological research.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"font_8 wixui-rich-text__text\"><span class=\"wixui-rich-text__text\">The Sacred Mountain is located in the heart of Tr\u00e1s-os-Montes, in the northeast of Portugal.  <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"font_8 wixui-rich-text__text\"><span class=\"wixui-rich-text__text\">It is an island-hill (quartzite inselberg) that rises above the surrounding lowlands, offering a 360\u00b0 panorama that reaches long distances, especially from three notable panoramic points: Pico de Santa Comba, Cruzeiro da Escarpa da Pala and Monte do Rei de Orelh\u00e3o.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"font_8 wixui-rich-text__text\"><span class=\"wixui-rich-text__text\">\u200b<\/span><span class=\"wixui-rich-text__text\">Archaeological research in the Serra began following the Christianization of the Buraco da Pala shelter in 1986. The following year, in 1987, the excavation of the shelter began, under the responsibility of Maria de Jesus Sanches. This gave rise to a vast program of studies which, following the identification, in 1988, of the shelters with schematic paintings in Regato das Bou\u00e7as 2 and 3, would be extended to the entire Serra in subsequent decades.
