This issue falls within the scope of CITCEM’s Tangible and Intangible Heritage research group.

The ex-voto constitutes a unique reality of communication, history, art and society, left on the margins of research for decades. As an object of devotion, it travels through times, knows no borders and is shared by the most diverse cultures. Until the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, it cut across all social groups in Europe, since then, it was opposed by the elites and withdrawn, in part, to the popular sphere. The materials used in its execution are practically unlimited, circulating between the perennial or ephemeral, universal or specific nature of a place, of long use or typical of contemporaneity: metals, wood, bone and ivory, ceramics, wax, fabrics, plastic, photography, bread and other foodstuffs. They all have in common, however, a plasticity that brings them together and allows them to easily shape models and/or recycle the material itself. The forms are endless, adapted to the sensibility, desire and need of each believer, distinguishing the anatomical ones which, in the words of Didi-Huberman, reveal the «formal insensitivity to any statement of style» (2016, p. 16). This diversity makes the ex-voto attractive to the most diverse areas of knowledge that have opened up, in recent years, to this vast field of study. Ethnologists are among the first to recognize its due value, followed by historians, anthropologists, communication scientists, sociologists, archaeologists and more recently art historians, information science, museology, conservation and restoration, etc.

In this sense, contributions are welcomed on the study of the ex-voto across the long diachrony and within a broad geographical context. Approaches that analyze this theme senza tempo and senza spazio from a multidisciplinary point of view are also valued, supported by different methodologies, disciplinary fields and perspectives on this universal object of study.

["post-25149","eventos","type-eventos","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry
["GET
