Born on February 10, 1926, Ant\u00f3nio Domingues de Sousa Costa dedicated his work to Portuguese medieval history and, above all, to ecclesiastical history. Over the course of more than four decades, he went through Portuguese and foreign archives, with particular emphasis on the Vatican Apostolic Archives, identifying and transcribing tens of thousands of documents relating to Portugal. This effort resulted in numerous publications, including the Monumenta Portugaliae Vaticana<\/em>.
