V PENINSULAR MEETING OF ANCIENT NUMISMATICS (EPNA)

\nWAR AND CURRENCY<\/span><\/h4>\n

Following the IV Peninsular Meeting of Ancient Numismatics <\/strong>(EPNA<\/strong>), which took place in Madrid between March 15th and 17th, 2010, the Faculty of Letters of the University of Porto<\/span><\/a><\/strong>, o CITCEM<\/span><\/a> <\/strong>and the Portuguese Numismatic Society<\/span><\/a><\/strong> are organizing the fifth edition of this scientific meeting, which will take place in Porto between April 9 and 11, 2026.<\/p>\n

Considering that one of the main objectives behind the organization of these colloquia was to promote the interaction of researchers from different related scientific areas, such as History, Archaeology, Epigraphy and Philology with the most current research guidelines developed in the field of Ancient Numismatics of the Iberian Peninsula.<\/p>\n

In keeping with the tradition of previous EPNAs, the Scientific Committee has agreed that the theme of this scientific event will be WAR AND CURRENCY<\/em>, which is unfortunately a highly topical subject in these troubled times. This theme will allow a broad approach to aspects related, among others, to: war and financial needs; production and supply of currency in militarized areas; military coinage and propaganda; monetization of the economy in conquered territories; war and hoarding of currency.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, choosing this topic will provide an analysis and evaluation of the
\nthe contribution of archaeological and numismatic research carried out in recent years on sets collected in contexts of conflict, the coinage produced for military payments and other approaches that better elucidate the processes of production, dissemination and circulation of currency throughout the peninsula.<\/p>\n

This fifth EPNA will also follow the format of previous editions, consisting of conferences presented by invited experts and papers that will be evaluated by the EPNA Scientific Committee.<\/p>\n

The aim of this V EPNA is to invite academics, specialists, scholars and other interested parties to present us with the latest research results in Ancient Numismatics and related disciplines, highlighting the theme of this scientific meeting, WAR AND CURRENCY, as well as other free themes in related areas.<\/p>\n

The sessions will open with conferences (30 min.) given by prestigious guest experts, followed by papers (20 min.), organized into thematic sessions.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
