Biographical note

Amândio Jorge Morais Barros was born in Porto. He graduated in History and specialized in the areas of Social and Economic History and Maritime History (area of his PhD: Porto: a construção de um espaço marítimo nos alvores da Época Moderna, Admiral Sarmento Rodrigues prize from the Academia de Marinha and Artur de Magalhães Basto Prize for the History of the City of Porto, Círculo José de Figueiredo). His publications have focused on these fields, as well as on the History of the City of Oporto and Douro and the History of Expansion, to which he has devoted several works. He is the scientific coordinator of the Interpretive Center O Infante e os Novos Mundos, at Casa do Infante/Arquivo Histórico Municipal do Porto.
Professor at the Escola Superior de Educação do Porto is a post-doctoral fellow at the universities of Porto and Valladolid, researcher at CITCEM-UP (Centre for Transdisciplinary Research. Culture, Space and Memory – University of Porto) and is a full member of the Navy Academy.
