FCT simplifies Open Access scientific publishing
In order to support the scientific community in complying with the Policy on Open Access to Scientific Publications, the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), through its digital services unit FCCN, has made available a support that gathers all the information needed to comply with this measure.
This platform offers:
▪️ clear guidelines for different types of scientific publications;
▪️ a practical guide to support authors throughout the process;
▪️ clarifications on the requirements and procedures associated with Open Access.
The FCT has adopted an Open Access Policy because it believes that research financed by public funds, such as those it grants as part of its mission to fund scientific activity in Portugal, should produce results that are in the public domain, freely accessible and reusable by all, thus enhancing scientific cooperation and the advancement of science, as well as increasing the visibility of scientific production and its authors.
The advantages of making publications available in Open Access are widely recognized. Its benefits have a direct impact on research, facilitating interdisciplinarity and increasing the visibility of the knowledge produced, but they also have a social and economic impact, bringing research to professionals in other areas, to companies and to interested audiences.
