It is with great sadness that CITCEM announces the death of a brilliant historian and, above all, of a Friend. Today Francisco Contente Domingues, one of the most important researchers in Maritime History and Portuguese Expansion, passed away.

Recognized in Portugal and abroad, he was loved for what he did in his profession, but mainly for the passion he dedicated to the causes, and the care he had for his friends and his students.

His illness never stopped him from promoting projects, organizing conferences, mentoring students, and writing, always writing, inviting us all to participate in what he was doing.

CITCEM deeply regrets his disappearance and will not let his memory be extinguished, expressing its availability to participate in any initiatives that may take place to honor this great name of Portuguese and international historiography.

To his family, his colleagues, the institutions to which he was connected, and all those who loved him, we leave our condolences and a strong hug of nostalgia.
