XESCOM is a scientific collaboration project (R2016 / 019), funded on a competitive basis by the Consellería de Cultura, Educación y Ordenación Universitaria de la Xunta de Galicia (España), launched in 2014 and in which around one hundred researchers from universities all over the world are participating: Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha, Universidad de Huelva and Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (Spain); Universidad de Oporto, Universidad de Minho, Universidad de Beira Interior, Universidad Fernando Pessoa and Universidad de Azores (Portugal); University of Hull and University of Leeds (United Kingdom); Università degli Studi di Firenze and Sapienza Università de Roma (Italy); Universidad Técnica de Machala, Universidad Pontificia Católica del Ecuador Sede Ibarra, Universidad Laica Eloy Alfaro de Manabí and CIESPAL (Ecuador); Universidad Federal de Bahía and Universidad Federal de Santa Catarina (Brazil); Universidad Autónoma de Ciudad Juárez, Universidad Autónoma de Tamaulipas, Universidad de Sonora and Universidad Autónoma de Chihuahua (Mexico).
Since 2015, XESCOM has organized an international symposium to promote encounters between researchers in the field of communication and other related areas. The first edition (2015) was held in the city of Pontevedra, Spain; the city of Quito, Ecuador, hosted the second edition (2016); the third symposium (2018) was held in La Coruña, Spain; and the city of Oporto will host the fourth edition in April 2019.
This symposium was structured to promote forums dedicated to scientific research and analysis of the current situation of communication management in the media and in business and institutional organizations, from a theoretical, instrumental and empirical perspective. In this sense, the aim is to address issues related to communication management, technological advances, the social responsibility of the media and other themes that every day constitute a constant challenge for professionals in the field of communication and allied areas.
In the 2019 edition, XESCOM’s main areas of work will be joined by other themes such as creative industries and entrepreneurship in the digital age. The fourth symposium will be held in collaboration with IMMAA (International Media Management Academic Association), PIMENED (Integrated Project for Mentoring, Entrepreneurship and Business Models in Digital Publishing) and the University of Oporto.
