The sea runs through Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen’s life and work: Praia da Granja signifies her childhood; the Algarve, adulthood and the passage from the rough sea of the north to the calm, sunny south; Greece, more than an age, represents the encounter with an ideal of beauty that runs throughout her poetry, because her love of Greece stems from her love of the sea.

Through a mobile app, we accompany the poet on this discovery, using her texts as guides. More than showing the importance of the sea in Sophia’s life, we try to show Sophia’s sea. Because, as he once wrote: “Sea, half my soul is made of sea air”.

The script that will be presented is a product of Vanessa Reis’s project, developed as part of her Master’s degree in Art History, Heritage and Visual Culture (FLUP), in the context of the New Media for Heritage Laboratory (eHeritageLab) for the University of Porto’s Digital Museum project, in partnership with the company Weblevel.

This event is part of the Multidisciplinary Cycle And Yet They Move! Women in the Arts and Sciences which aims to pay tribute to the contribution of various women in different professional fields, as well as to tell their story and the rebellious gesture of challenging and overcoming the limits culturally associated with their sex.
