Session with Covadonga Valdaliso Casanova (CH-ULisboa) - "Por la mala ordenanza que esta por do se treslado este libro: os problemas de transmissão no estudo dos textos historiográficos da Baixa Idade Média" (For the bad order that this book was translated)

The manuscript transmission of medieval texts in general, and historiographic texts in particular, greatly conditions the study of the works. This is not, however, the only aspect in which transmission influences the analyses of these texts. Already in the Middle Ages, some works were altered and, as a result, have come down to the present in the form of updates, versions, or recasts. At the same time, these writings are often also channels for the transmission of previous texts. In this session we propose to present some examples illustrating these and other issues and, based on them, to point to certain problems that often appear when working with this type of registers.

Covadonga Valdaliso is a researcher at the History Center of the University of Lisbon. She has a degree in History (Universidad de Cantabria) and a PhD in Medieval History (Universidad de Valladolid), with a thesis on Pedro López de Ayala’s chronicle of Pedro I de Castilla. Her studies are specially focused on the analysis of Castilian and Portuguese historiographic texts of the Late Middle Ages.

The Zoom session is open to the entire academic and scientific community and can be accessed via the link: https://zoom.us/j/93213235250.

Organization: Jorge Araújo (CITCEM/FLUP) and Rute Russo (CITCEM/FLUP).
