Researchers from CITCEM and Santa Casa da Misericórdia do Porto present three virtual exhibitions dedicated to "Rua das Flores

In the context of the International Day of Monuments and Sites 2022, CITCEM and Santa Casa da Misericórdia do Porto are presenting to the public a set of three virtual exhibitions designed in the context of the cycle of events celebrating the 500th anniversary of Rua das Flores.

The exhibitions will be available on the Google Arts & Culture platform as of April 28th, on the webpage of the Faculty of Arts of the University of Porto.

The narratives of the three exhibitions are complementary to each other. Resulting from a curatorial work based on visual material that, for the most part, was produced for this purpose, the three virtual exhibitions rehearse a polysemic reading of Rua das Flores. From the contemporary, the visitor is invited to look at the Street in detail – online or offline – through the deconstruction of temporal layers.

In “Rua das Flores I. Uses” focuses on the street as “Creation”, a space of different “Uses” and “Mutations”. “Rua das Flores II. Materials and Shapes” shows how the street was made and is continuously transformed from “Materials. Shapes. Textures. Colors.” Finally, in “Rua das Flores III. Significances” shows other historical layers that marked this very determinant artery of the urban fabric of the Historic Center of Porto. Therefore, “Meanings. Experiences. Meanings.

Coordinated by Professors Ana Cristina Sousa (CITCEM/FLUP and DCTP/FLUP) and Maria Leonor Botelho (CITCEM/FLUP and DCTP/FLUP), the contents of the exhibitions were developed by a group of students from the PhD in Heritage Studies, specialization in Art History, from FLUP, with the support of CITCEM and Santa Casa da Misericórdia do Porto.
