Digital tools and historical and archaeological research. Workshop to share methodologies and disseminate results
Session Proponent:
Filipe Conceição (CITCEM/Territories, Landscapes and Environment – Science ID E618-4C02-A9F1)
César Guedes (CITCEM/Territories, Landscapes and Environment – Science ID 821F-E96B-7572)
Sessionsummary:
Geographic Information Systems (GIS), photogrammetry and three-dimensional models, together with other digital tools, have proved to be essential and indispensable in historical and archaeological research. These technologies allow the integration, visualization and analysis of large volumes of spatial and temporal data, helping to identify occupation patterns, interaction networks and environmental transformations, resulting in significant advances in knowledge of the past. This session aims to highlight the importance of using these digital tools and, in a true “workshop” spirit, to share the methodologies used and the results of the communicators’ research.
Communications:
Filipe Conceição (CITCEM) – From document to atlas: tools for reconstructing and publicizing the Portuguese medieval road network
César Guedes (CITCEM) – From the historiographical source to the point on the map: methodological paths for the cartographic and three-dimensional representation of bridges and roads
Bernardo Souza (FLUP) – The Vermoense atlas: cartographic production as a narrative tool
Niels Petersen (Research Associate; PI of viabundus.eu) – The Viabundus project
