"Ms. 1 Blue of the ACL of the Chronicle of 1344 as a literary and artistic object" | Medieval Chronistics Session
FLUP’s Chronicle Group is holding its annual meeting dedicated to the study of medieval chronicles. It will be led by Dr. Isabel Barros Dias, who will present a paper on ms. 1 Blue of the Chronicle of 1344, currently at the Lisbon Academy of Sciences. This was the basic manuscript for the edition of this work by Lindley Cintra and, due to its textual characteristics, it is a key testimony in the evolution of medieval Portuguese historiography. It is also a superb artistic object, profusely illuminated. The decorative program of this manuscript has already been studied by art historians and philologists. However, its richness has not yet been fully explored. Therefore, in this session, we will look at this artistic object from the point of view of its insertion in the literary and cultural environment of the time when it was made. Isabel Barros Dias is an Associate Professor at Universidade Aberta, where she has taught since 1989. She has published articles in various specialist journals, collective publications and proceedings, both national and international, as well as two books on Iberian medieval historiography(Metamorfoses de Babel, 2003, and La identidad de la historiografia, 2013). His research is based on Comparative Literature and Studies on the Imaginary, and his main areas of interest are Medieval Literature, 16th Century Literature, Oral and Traditional Literature and Textual Editing. The session will be online and open to the public, with no prior registration required. Session link: https://meet.google.com/vyt-dcjm-npi
