International Congress - Castreño Culture: Identity and Transitions
Over the last four and a half decades, we have seen remarkable progress in our knowledge about the Castreja culture of the northwest of the Iberian Peninsula, fundamentally as a result of the countless archaeological excavations in Castros, using the appropriate methodologies, which enabled pioneering and innovative scientific results to be published as early as 1973, in Porto, at the III National Archaeological Congress. This meeting led to the resumption of relations between archaeologists working in Galicia and northern Portugal, which soon deepened with the re-establishment of democracy in Portugal and Spain.
As we believe that the time has come to take stock of the results of the immense work carried out to date, to relaunch the discussion on the most problematic issues and to point out new approaches in the research of Castreja Culture, we have called this international congress, where we would like to count on the collaboration of those who have had the privilege of following this journey and to foster dialogue with those who are carrying on the research today, without forgetting the motivation of the younger ones.
We therefore invite the entire interested scientific community to take part in the International Congress “Cultura Castreja: identidade e transições”, which will be held in Santa Maria da Feira, the headquarters of the organizing body, from November 15 to 17, 2018.
