III International Seminar. The Periodical Press and the Portuguese-speaking Communities
Started in March 2018 and taking place every six months, the ImprensaPeriódica International Seminars have been a space for multidisciplinary reflection on the Periodical Press as a source of information for the production of knowledge, highlighting the need for access and research, in its printed and/or online versions, in the context of scientific research work.
The first edition of the seminars took place at FLUP on April 5, 2018, under the theme “Periodical Press and cities-port: creation of knowledge, representations and networks”, and the 2nd Periodical Press Seminar took place at ISCTE on November 23, 2018, under the theme “Periodical Press and Memory: creation and re-creation of political, economic, literary and scientific discourses”.
In this 3rd edition, the aim is to visit the different geographies of Portuguese-speaking communities where the periodical press has a significant presence, maintaining the multidisciplinary approach already evident in previous editions of the seminar, bringing together researchers from scientific areas such as communication, information, history, literature and international relations.
With Portuguese being the third most widely spoken Indo-European language in the world and the first in the southern hemisphere, plus the rapid expansion of the teaching of Portuguese as a foreign language, we can expect the importance of the Portuguese-language periodical press to grow, as well as its expansion as an object of study for the creation and discussion of new knowledge.
Consequently, the aim of this seminar is to showcase work carried out in the context of this scenario and which expresses the current paths of research into the periodical press in Portuguese-speaking communities, theoretically and methodologically supported in the various disciplinary fields involved.15
