Creative Industries and Digital Culture

Speaker: Kenton Wilkinson Institute for Hispanic & International Communication in the College of Media & Communication at Texas Tech University. He holds a BA in English and History (University of Colorado/Boulder), an MA in Latin American Studies (University of California/Berkeley), and a PhD in Radio-TV-Film (University of Texas at Austin). He is editor of the International Journal of Hispanic Media and serves on the editorial boards of four other academic journals and an international book series. Wilkinson’s research interests include international communication, Hispanic-oriented media in the U.S., and health communication. His book, Spanish-Language Television in the United States: Fifty Years of Development, was published by Routledge in 2016. Wilkinson recently collaborated with Latin American researchers to conduct comparative
studies of how millennial populations use their smartphones in Chile, Mexico and Texas. He is also a member of the Lubbock Scapes Collective, a cross-disciplinary group of researchers studying the land, architectures, cultures and languages of West Texas. His current book project concerning language difference in electronic media approaches the topic from a variety of vantage points.
