The Individual Competition is aimed at PhD holders, of any nationality or stateless persons, with a background in any scientific field who wish to carry out their scientific research or technological development in Portugal.

General requirements

Portuguese, foreign and stateless PhD holders with a background in any scientific field who wish to carry out scientific research or technological development in Portugal are eligible to apply.

Candidates must not have an employment relationship of indefinite or indefinite duration with any entity belonging to the National Science and Technology System, as identified in article 14 of Decree-Law no. 63/2019, of May 16, whose object or content includes scientific research activities.

Specific requirements

Candidates must indicate which level/category they are applying for, within the two levels open to competition:

a) Junior researcher – doctoral graduates of 5 years or less as of the closing date of the application submission period, with little post-doctoral research experience in the scientific area to which they are applying.

b) Assistant researcher – PhD holders at the closing date of the application submission period, with a relevant curriculum in the scientific area to which they are applying.

Suspensions or interruptions in research activity may be taken into account when counting the time after obtaining the doctoral degree, provided they are duly documented, as detailed in the call for applications.
