THE DEADLINE FOR SUBMITTING PROPOSALS IS 28-02-2026.

AUTHORS MUST IDENTIFY THE NUMBER OF THE HUNDRED IN THE NAME OF THE ARTICLE’S WORD FILE.

The journal CEM – Culture, Space & Memory invites researchers in the fields of History, Archaeology, Art History, Historiographical Sciences, Museology and related disciplines to submit articles for the thematic dossier “Writing and Memory”, to be published in issue 22, for the 2nd semester of 2026.

Writing, as a social, political, artistic and historiographical practice, has been a central instrument in the construction and preservation of memory. This dossier proposes to bring together reflections on the multiple uses and functions of writing in the elaboration of memory – individual, collective, cultural, historical, social, traumatic – from the medieval period to contemporary times. We are interested in discussing how texts, documents, monuments, images and other material and symbolic supports are inscribed in the processes of constructing memory over time.

We are waiting for articles on other topics:

  • Writing as a way of recording and transmitting memory over time;
  • Writing and memory practices in religious, political, legal or artistic contexts;
  • The materiality of writing: epigraphic and paleographic sources for the study of memory and history;
  • Archives, libraries, museums and the construction of historical narratives;
  • Self-writing (memoirs, autobiographies, diaries) as a historical practice;
  • Visual and textual narratives in art history and their relationship with memory;
  • Material marks of memory in archaeological spaces.

Unpublished articles are accepted in Portuguese, Spanish, French and English. Submissions must follow the editorial guidelines available on our website: https://ojs.letras.up.pt/index.php/CITCEM/citcem (see Instructions for Authors).

The texts will be evaluated in a double-blind peer review system.

In addition to the thematic dossier, CEM accepts other studies in the Various section, as well as news and critical reviews.
