Atlantic Connections Workshop
The Atlantic world was shaped by the various interactions between Europeans and since the late middle ages between those and transatlantic indigenous societies. The workshop will therefore focus on cultural exchanges and knowledge transfers across the Atlantic from the fifteenth to the twentieth century. The papers will examine the depictions of indigenous cultures in European art and literature, the possession of European and Asian art objects and material goods in colonial households, the circulation of urban models, the role of transatlantic networks for the circulation of enlightenment ideas and the waves of European migration and settlements in colonial and post colonial Latin America.
