The cycle of conferences Neoliberalism and Austerity is part of the work dynamic of the exploratory project Austerity as ideology, morality, and everyday life: Southern Europe in the Eurozone crisis (2010-2017) and aims to reflect on the origin, causes, and consequences of the financial crisis that first struck the United States of America and then spread to Europe, and especially to Portugal, Italy, Greece, and Spain. We will also try to think about the argumentation and moral discourse that legitimized the austerity measures imposed by the International Monetary Fund, the European Central Bank, the European Commission, and the governments of these four countries.

The second session of the “Neoliberalism and Austerity” colloquium cycle will take place on May 24 at 10am online (https://videoconf-colibri.zoom.us/j/91806264988).

This session will feature Victoria Cooper (The Open Univversity, Ru) and Jessica Whyte (UNSW Sydney, AU).
