2nd WORKSHOP Douro and Pico - world heritage cultural landscapes: enhancement and sustainability
This second Douro and Pico Workshop aims to follow on from the “Alto Douro and Pico Island… comparative experimentation” Workshop, held by CITCEM in 2017, with the aim of contributing to the development of comprehensive and comparative studies on the Douro and Pico wine-growing cultural landscapes, classified as World Heritage, in the different dimensions of the construction and enhancement of these landscapes (territory, work, heritage and culture).
Looking for multidisciplinary answers to two current and complementary challenges – how to protect and, at the same time, enhance these two national world heritage wine-growing landscapes? The aim of this 2nd Workshop is to understand and interpret the history, heritage and culture of these two wine-growing regions as assets of identity and resource value, for a management and sustainability strategy for their respective territories, in a logic of multidimensional valorization and globalization. A comparative analysis of historic landscapes as “global systems” is favored, seeking to follow the path of these heritage assets from their history and conception to their complex integration and circulation in the sphere of consumption, reflecting on the multiplicity of configurations and “mercantile agencies”. The aim is to bring together the multidisciplinary thinking of researchers from various CITCEM groups and lines of research with that of researchers and scholars from other institutions and research centers who have been working on these issues.
