Call for papers "Medieval Studies Workshop

The GIHM organizes the annual Workshop on Medieval Studies (WEM), at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Porto, which aims to bring together masters and doctoral students in medieval studies from Portuguese and foreign universities.

The WEM, which is open to MA and PhD students in History, History of Art, Archaeology, Philosophy, Philology and Medieval Literature, is a space for the discussion of ideas and the presentation of research projects (MA and PhD), with the intention of contributing to the improvement of ongoing work. Applicants who intend to submit final results of studies completed or nearing completion will not be selected.

The XIV edition of this Workshop will take place on April 13th and 14th 2023, entirely face-to-face, at the Anfiteatro Nobre da Faculdade de Letras da Universidade do Porto.

To apply, you must complete, by December 31, 2022, the form available at:

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfE3hHTl0Hpdy4sjOaZukwjj4Do1uFXxw5EpAKtYk259uuaDw/viewform?usp=sf_link

The results of the selection will be communicated by February 20, 2023.

Applicants whose proposals are selected should submit papers, following instructions made available by GIHM, to gihmedieval@gmail.com by March 24, 2023.

The WEM sessions will have 45 minutes, distributed as follows: each participant will have 15 minutes to present his or her paper; this will be followed by comments from a colleague (5 minutes) and an expert on the topic (10 minutes); the last 15 minutes are for presentation of responses by the communicant and discussion with the audience.

Each participant will have to read another candidate’s text and prepare scientific comments lasting no longer than 5 minutes. The working languages will be Portuguese, English or Spanish.

The research papers presented at the WEM are published in Incipit, a digital edition of the GIHM available on the site of the Digital Library of the Faculty of Arts of the University of Porto. The latest issue can be found at:
