Call for communications

Ten years after the International Congress Genius Loci: Places and Meanings (2016) and aware of the changes the world has undergone during that time, the DCTP – Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Porto and CITCEM are relaunching this Scientific Meeting in 2026, in an updated edition that is aware of the challenges and needs facing the social sciences today. However, the event continues to celebrate the three decades of specialized teaching and research in the scientific areas of Archaeology, Art History and Museology carried out at the DCTP, as well as heritage promotion and intervention.

In this 2.0 edition of Genius Loci, contributions are expected that take into account the conceptual, epistemological and technological advances that mark scientific research into Heritage Sciences and Techniques in our time. As part of CITCEM’s strategic plan 2025-29, centered on the theme “Finding communities and expanding dialogues”, Genius Loci 2.0: places and meanings welcomes proposals that present multi-, inter- and transdisciplinary approaches, framed in one of the following thematic sections:

• Architectures
• Spaceçsacred spaces
• Managementãasset managementómanagement
• Images and contexts
• Worlds of transitiontiono
• Vernacular
• Landscapes, territories & mobilities

Each of the sections will include lectures given by prestigious guest experts (40 minutes), followed by papers (20 minutes). Participation will also be possible through the presentation of posters, which should fall within the themes of the respective Sections.

Proposals for papers and posters will be accepted in Portuguese, Spanish and English. Proposals will be subject to scientific arbitration.
