About CITCEM

Founded in 2007, CITCEM is a R&D Unit based at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Porto. Anchored in the wider field of the humanities and social sciences, CITCEM operates as a transdisciplinary research platform, exploring the close connections between several disciplines, such as history, archaeology, art history, cultural and literary studies, demography, information, communication, and heritage sciences, amongst others. Briefly put, CITCEM focuses on the transdisciplinary study of memory and heritage themes in connection with the evolving interactive construction of economic, social, political, cultural, and territorial identities and spaces. This focus encompasses the study of identity memories, cultural heritage in its material and immaterial forms, environmental history, rural and urban landscapes, population mobility, religious practices, and other associated research topics. ‘Migration and Permeabilities’, is CITCEM’s thematic research priority for 2018-2022.

CITCEM is structured into eight research groups:

Territory and Landscape

Population and Health

Trading Value

Religious Practices and Sociabilities

Glocal Representations

Tangible and Intangible Heritage

Education and Societal Challenges

Digital Culture

Five research lines, operating in a complementary and intersecting manner, and involving members of all the eight groups, are as follows:

Otherness Within

Shared Territories

Environmental Change

Shifting Transitions

Global Exchanges

About Marie-Curie Individual Fellowships

These Fellowships fund post-doctoral researchers of any discipline to undertake a research project of their choice. International mobility is essential, and fellowships include personal and career development objectives. Applications must therefore be written jointly between the applicant, CITCEM and REMA (our Research Management and Science Communication Hub).
