Session on Medieval Chronistics with Tiago Queimada e Silva (University of Turku - Finland) - The Portuguese Aristocracy between Goths and Muslims: the testimony of historiography (late 13th century - mid 14th century)
For the sessions on medieval chronicles, we seek to give space to young researchers with new perspectives on this area of study and who place Portugal in relation to Europe and the world. In this second session Dr. Tiago Queimada e Silva will present some of the results that he has been obtaining in the context of his doctoral research, which deals with the Portuguese aristocratic historiographical memories between the last decades of the 13th century and the middle of the following century.
Biographical note by the speaker:
Tiago João Queimada e Silva is a scholar of the Finnish Cultural Foundation and a PhD student at the University of Turku (Finland), where he is currently finishing his thesis entitled “The ‘Good Noblemen’ Who Conquered the Kingdom: Historiography and Aristocratic Legitimation in Late-Medieval Portugal (Late-Thirteenth and Fourteenth Centuries)”. He has a master’s degree in History of the Middle Ages from the University of Coimbra, where his thesis dealt with the medieval chronological representations of Afonso Henriques. Recently he has been investigating and publishing studies on aristocratic representations of the past in medieval Portugal, focusing particularly on the use for political purposes of historiographical memories narrating processes of Christian-Muslim interaction.
