Sound itineraries in performance art: processes of creation and artistic recreation
The Seminar Sound itineraries in performance art: processes of creation and artistic recreation carried out in the NIHAPAC Research Group in Art History – Contemporary Artistic Practices of CITCEM (Transdisciplinary Research Center for Memory Space), corresponds to one of the stages of the ongoing doctoral research Sound Arts in Performance Art in Portugal (project funded by FCT): whose main focus is to study and identify the relationship between performance art Portuguese and music/sound – synergies, practices and archive – developed in a time arc from the 1960s to the present day.
This seminar aims to promote dialogue between artists and researchers in Contemporary Art History in order to establish a confrontation between artistic practice and theoretical studies so far conducted in Portugal on this theme. In this way, we intend to put into question the condition of music and sound in the artistic creation of contemporary performance art in Portugal, through the analysis of its inherent transdisciplinarity, and simultaneously reflect on the possibilities of recreating works belonging to this artistic genre.
Sound Itineraries in Performance Art, will act as a research laboratory in which we intend to problematize and map the extensive territory where performance and sound arts merge, through a cross between the circulation of theoretical knowledge, archive and contemporary artistic practice.
