Paula Menino Homem and Alexandre Matos, CITCEM researchers, are part of the winning international project

The project “Protocols for cultural heritage risk management: scientific documentation and monitoring using BIM (Building Information Modeling) Damage Maps and three-dimensional reconstruction techniques”, coordinated by Professor Yacy-Ara Froner Gonçalves, from the Federal University of Minas Gerais, and with the participation of Professor Paula Menino Homem and Dr. Alexandre Matos, both researchers at CITCEM, received funding from the National Fund for Scientific and Technological Development (Brazil) for its implementation.

This project aims to investigate and develop methodologies for building modeling and three-dimensional reconstruction applied to the management and preservation of Sites and Monuments, in order to assist conservation and/or restoration projects, thus enabling more efficient, less costly, and continuous protection and recovery projects.

The methodology developed can be applied to other cases, both in archeological sites and in immobile or integrated cultural assets, improving projects and actions of the public agencies responsible for protecting the cultural heritage.

The effective management of Cultural Heritage promotes its protection and visibility, allowing the development of subsidized strategies in the field of public action and private initiative, in addition to encouraging sustainable development through tourism and cultural and creative industries, improving the quality of life through the recognition of the value of local culture and the social development arising from it. In the field of technology applied to heritage, the production of quality analytical documentation involves the systematic recording of information at different scales and includes diagnostic protocols, identification of materials/building techniques, and mapping of damage/risk, and is a transdisciplinary activity that encompasses identification, recording, evaluation, interpretation, correlation, management, and dissemination of information. These types of analytical models function as decision support in conservation and restoration processes and projects.
