[DATE TO BE ANNOUNCED] 9th International Congress on Cyberjournalism (#9COBCIBER)
INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS
Nov. 18–19, 2026, FLUP (A. Nobre)
[DATE TO BE ANNOUNCED]
9th International Congress on Cyberjournalism (#9COBCIBER)
Throughout its various editions, the International Congress on Cyberjournalism has tracked the transformations of journalism in the digital environment, from the earliest experiments in participatory journalism and convergence to the current challenges posed by platformization and artificial intelligence. In the process, it has established itself as a forum for critical reflection on emerging practices, models, and dynamics in the field of cyberjournalism.
The 2026 edition of the International Congress on Cyberjournalism (#9COBCIBER) aims to shift the analytical focus toward the relationships of influence and power that permeate the digital information ecosystem. Rather than simply introducing new subjects of study, the aim is to encourage a critical examination of how power is distributed, negotiated, and exercised in the processes of information production, circulation, and reception. In this context, platforms, algorithms, political actors, content creators, metrics, and emerging technologies are no longer merely elements of the media system but are analyzed as active agents in shaping visibility, authority, and the legitimacy of information. Accordingly, submissions should address cyberjournalism, with a special focus on this issue’s theme, “Journalism, Influence, and Power,” and may cover, among others, the following topics:
– Journalism, Platforms, and the Reconfiguration of Information Power
– Digital influence, content creators, and today’s new mediators
– Political power, propaganda, strategic communication, and journalism
– Disinformation, manipulation, and influence operations in the digital public sphere
– Artificial intelligence, automation, and the redistribution of journalistic authority
– Algorithms, visibility, and attention hierarchies
– Business models, monetization, and economic dependencies in digital journalism
– Metrics, performance, and editorial constraints
– Regional and Local Journalism: Proximity, Legitimacy, and Power Relations
– Communities, participation, and forms of mediated public intervention
– Credibility, trust, and disputes over the legitimacy of information
– Ethics, transparency, regulation, and accountability in the digital ecosystem
The #9COBCIBER will take place in person on November 18 and 19, 2026, andonline on the afternoon of the 18th, in the Noble Amphitheatre of the Faculty of Letters of the University of Porto.
