Women and intercultural dialogues in the contemporary Portuguese-speaking world

CYCLE OF WEBINARS
June 2, 11 and 16, 2026

The Portuguese Department of the Escola Superior de Educação de Bragança (ESEB-IPB), in collaboration with CITCEM and the Chair of Hispanic and Lusophone Literatures at Goethe-Universität Frankfurt am Main, is promoting the Webinar Cycle: Women and intercultural dialogues in the contemporary Lusophone space.

This initiative aims to promote debate on the discourses, practices and representations of women in the contemporary Lusophone context, through a transdisciplinary approach centred on the cultural, literary and social dynamics that characterize the transatlantic space.

Each of the sessions will deal with a specific theme, developing and deepening the general theme of the cycle. The first session proposes a reflection on the experience of women of African descent in the post-colonial context, problematizing the relationship between memory, citizenship and intergenerational responsibility, based on the contribution of Professor and Sociologist Sheila Khan. The second session, focused on literary studies, will look at the main characteristics of African and Afro-diasporic poetics in Brazil, with the intervention of Professor Ana Rita Santiago. Finally, the last session of the cycle will focus on women’s cultural agency in Lusophony, addressing writing in contexts of displacement and circulation between cultural spaces. This third session will feature writer and researcher Calila das Mercês.
