“It’s cultural.” Portuguese don’t want to pay for online news
The report by the Observatory of Cyberjournalism also reveals that the media are not taking full advantage of the benefits that the Internet offers journalism
The Portuguese are not willing to pay for access to premium content on the online pages of the media. On the other hand, the media are not taking advantage of all the benefits that the internet offers digital journalism in order to reach more audiences, reveals the report by the Observatory of Cyberjournalism (ObCiber 2025), released this Wednesday.
Catarina Meireles, author of the study, says she was surprised that few newspaper companies are taking advantage of digital media to diversify their sources of revenue and content distribution.
