XII CONGRESS OF THE HISTORICAL DEMOGRAPHY ASSOCIATION
Theme: Demography and History: from Catastrophe to Global Risk
The Demographic Transition can be defined as the struggle against the catastrophic events that marked the evolution of the population during the Old Regime, personified in the apocalyptic events of war, famine and plague. Nowadays, the evolution of the population -increase or decrease-, its structure -aging-, and the components of demographic dynamics -fecundity, migration, and mortality-, are perceived as global risks, if not as catastrophes. This congress invites reflection on the problematization of demographic evolution, as well as the demographic analysis of phenomena that can be perceived as global risks or catastrophes from a historical and current perspective.
