International and Interdisciplinary Colloquium - Poetics of tears
Poetics of tears: women’s texts and contexts (theory and practice)”
Women’s tears constitute a language of broad anthropological significance, translated into the most varied fields of human expression: painting, sculpture, religion, philosophy, literature, cinema, music, theater, costume…
Because of the diversity of situations in which they surprise and represent, women’s tears carry an intersubjective message, whose “mute rhetoric” surpasses the power of words in radical situations.
Tears are, in a way, a hidden narrative, carrying with them a permanent tension between the desired world and the possible world, questioning the place of human beings in the world, their relationship with the divine, the meaning of suffering or joy…
This colloquium aims to take an in-depth look at the psychology, function, symbol, power or fragility of women’s tears, as a contribution to the still very incipient and fragmented History of Tears.
