NASONI 300º project/exhibition

The NASONI 300º project/exhibition will take place at Porto Cathedral between December 1, 2025 and January 10, 2026, curated by Dr. Giovanni Battista Tedesco.

The event marks the 300th anniversary of Nicolau Nasoni’s arrival in Porto (1725) and brings together a group of 12 drawings from the Ciaccheri collection (Biblioteca degli Intronati, Siena), combining them with works from the artist’s first Portuguese period, recently enhanced by the restoration completed in 2024 of the Cathedral’s chancel.

This is a project with a high scientific, cultural, social and tourist impact. Scientifically, it proposes a comparative path between Nasoni’s Italian training (quadraturismo, trompe-l’oeil, perspective) and his Portuguese maturity, allowing new readings on the circulation of artistic models and the transfer of knowledge in the Atlantic and Mediterranean eighteenth centuries. Culturally and socially, it promotes qualified access to the heritage of the Cathedral and the city, reinforcing heritage education and community participation. In terms of tourism, it offers an excellent cultural product during the high festive season, enhancing the urban experience and branding Porto as a heritage destination.
